Energy Conference 2012: Power, Water, Shelter

Old Westbury, N.Y. (February 28, 2012) – NYIT’s annual energy conference on June 13 will feature experts in emergency response, energy technologies to help disaster-stricken areas, and shelter models for developed and under-developed countries.

The conference, “Off the Grid:  Power, Water, and Shelter,” will be held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at NYIT de Seversky Mansion.  The keynote speaker is Richard Rotanz, executive director of the Applied Science Center of Innovation and Excellence in Homeland Security.
 
“This year’s conference is presenting new ideas and energy technologies that have global impact,” said Robert Amundsen, one of the conference organizers and director of the master’s in energy management program at NYIT.  “We’re offering an interdisciplinary exploration of key energy topics that are important for people who live in developed areas like Long Island or in rural settings with few resources.”
 
NYIT faculty from the Center for Global Health will discuss their work in under-developed countries. NYIT alumni and CEO of EmPower David Shieren (M.S. ’06) will participate in a panel discussion on wind and photovoltaic power.  Other participants include Hollis Stone, an expert in emergency power and water systems, and NYIT faculty members Farzana Gandhi, Jason Van Nest and Michelle Bertomen, designers of water bottle roofing system.
