Director of Business Development
Name: Greg Banhazl
Department: Financial Affairs
Campus: Old Westbury
Why did you decide to join NYIT?
I was excited about an opportunity that would allow me the flexibility to not only investigate, develop, and optimize existing physical and intellectual assets, but also to originate and develop new projects. Also, after 26 years in project development, I wanted to give back. I knew that this was a place where I could make a difference.
What do you do at NYIT?
At the most basic level, I look for great business opportunities and connections that allow me to promote the best attributes of NYIT and its programs. It seems like every day I wear a different hat. Special projects can range from licensing a DNA microarray patent from one of our faculty to developing a sustainable campus vision for the institution or working as one of the coordinators of a conference on global warming and alternative energy technology.
Why do you like working at NYIT?
It’s the variety of projects, the reach, and the independence that keep me coming back every day. The more variety and the greater the number of projects the happier I am. It’s challenging, but it’s never boring.
What’s unique about your job?
I get to work with many different NYIT departments. I cross over all disciplines and really get a true understanding of how NYIT functions. Each day I meet someone new who makes an interesting and valuable contribution to the institution.
What’s your favorite perk/benefit about working at NYIT?
It’s the freedom to explore, investigate, and develop potential. I embrace change and progress. The potential for that dynamic is always here.
