Director of Student Activities
Name: Dennis Camacho
Title: Director of Student Activities
Department: Student Activities
Campus: Manhattan Campus
Why did you decide to join NYIT?
I was intrigued by the progressiveness of the institution, which is very unique. NYIT’s commitment to developing the Division of Students Affairs convinced me that this was a viable position at this point in my career.
What do you do at NYIT?
I oversee all aspects of the Office of Student Activities at the Manhattan campus, including the staff, office budget, Student Government Association, student newspaper, Student Programming Association, the recreation program, and all recognized clubs and organizations.
Why do you like working here?
It is extremely refreshing to be a part of NYIT’s efforts to develop our student services. I receive the proper amount of challenge, support, and appreciation on a daily basis from both administration and students. I consider myself lucky to be working with such a great group of colleagues and students.
What has been your favorite experience at NYIT yet?
I can’t choose just one. I would say that our open houses, orientations, and spirit week celebrations all bring excitement to the Manhattan campus. The enthusiasm everyone brings to the table during these annual events makes for a very fun day!
What is your favorite perk/benefit about working at NYIT?
I would have to say that working at an institution that has more than one campus has been very interesting. Going to meetings in Old Westbury and catching up with colleagues out there lets you take a break from your normal routine.
What’s been the biggest surprise about working at NYIT?
The fact that every promise made when I was hired was met pretty quickly. As mentioned previously, not only am I challenged but I have received the proper institutional support to get the job done. It is great to be at an institution that really wants you to succeed because if I succeed that means the students will be satisfied.
